Measurements 1. Crown height - maximum
height of the weld relative to the line drawn between the two weld edges.
2.
Weld width - width of the weld between the two edges at the base.
3.
Mismatch - height difference of the projected parent surfaces at weld center.
4.
Peaking - angle difference of the projected parent surfaces at weld center.
5.
Undercut - depth of any undercut relative to the line drawn between the
two weld edges.
Industry Examples 1. Space
- inspection of welds on external tanks.
2. Welded Steel Blanks -
verification of compliance with customer specifications.
3. Shipbuilding - quality
inspections.
4. Pressure Vessels - measurement
of weld features.
Sensors
and Controllers Sensor selection will be
dependent on the size of the weld. For very small welds such as laser
welded blanks, the HS400 which has a narrow field-of-view and higher resolution
would be used. Any of the sensors and controllers could be used for
the application including the Series 3000 controller with the RS400 sensor
for on-line inspections.
