NASA's
Marshall Space Flight Center, the Advanced Sensors Directorate at the U.S.
Army Missile Command and local industry, the founders realized that each
project was requiring the redevelopment of an inspection system for identifying
and measuring surface contour features. The solution would be a standard,
off-the-shelf instrument with built-in flexibility for use on different
applications.
The company was formed in
1994 and development efforts began immediately. The result was a laser-based,
programmable system capable of dimensional measurements with precision
to within a thousandth of an inch. With a hand-held sensor and a
portable controller, one system could be used in different locations to
automatically measure features such as gaps, step heights, mismatch,
angles and radius of curvature. The first system was shipped in the
summer of 1995 and that system is still in use by the customer today.
Origin's LaserGauge
product line includes portable and on-line measurement systems, all with
the programmable flexibility for use in varied applications. Today,
Origin's systems are used for measurement and inspection in many industries
ranging from automotive and aerospace to manufacturing and food processing. |
