Measurements
1. Gap - the distance between the left and right edges of the gap.  Determination of the edge of the gap is
critical to the measurement.  Edge selection can be made visually by the operator in on-screen measurements.  In automated measurements, edge selection is made using a number of different methodologies.
2. Flush - the height difference between the left and right panels on either side of the gap.

Industry Examples
1. Automotive - post-production inspection of panel fit-up on auto and truck bodies.
2. Aerospace - pre-weld plate fit-up.
3. Pressure Vessels - inspection of panel seams.
4. Manufacturing -quality check of machined gaps in parts.

Controllers and Sensors
The field-of-view of the sensor should be sufficient to capture the maximum width of the gap plus enough of the surface on either side of the gap to establish the flushness.  All controller and sensor combinations would be candidates for use on this application.  Sensor stand-off's that guide the sensor into position over the gap would be important to the ease of use and repeatability of results.
