Each LaserGaugeŽ system consists of a controller and a sensor. The sensor captures the profile of a surface and transmits it to the controller for processing. Powerful, yet flexible, algorithms are used to extract measurements from the digitized image. Models of controllers and sensors have different capabilities that can be matched to fit the unique requirements of an application.

Portable controllers can be used for many applications and provide the mobility needed to make the measurements wherever the parts are located in the plant. Different models provide graphic or text displays, or offer wireless communications.

|
Sensors come in two basic configurations: handheld for portable applications and remote for stationary or on-line inspection systems. The measurement requirements of an application determine which model should be used with a controller. Most sensors are compatible with all controller models.

Portable controllers can be powered using a range of 12-volt battery products. Rechargeable batteries provide hours of uninterrupted run-time. Instead of wearing the portable controller over the shoulder, a wheeled instrument cart can turn the system into a mobile inspection station.

The same type of measurement can be made repetitively, such as in a sampling event, or many different types of measurements can be made on a part or an entire assembly according to an inspection procedure. Inspection routines are developed using PC-based proprietary software programs.
