Communications - Measurement results can be saved in separate files on the portable controllers and later retrieved to a PC for archiving or further analysis. LGRetrieve is a communication program running on a PC that allows the retrieval of data and other files, such as saved scans, from the controller using a null modem serial cable. Files are sent to the controller in a similar fashion using another application called LGUtility. Both programs are provided with each controller.
Inspection Routines - Portable LaserGaugeŽ controllers can be used to make the same measurement repetitively, such as in a sampling event, or they can be used to run lengthy inspection routines. An inspection routine consists of a number of measurements made on an individual part or on a complete assembly such as a vehicle or airplane. There may be a number of different types of measurements performed in the inspection of a part, and usually those measurements are made in a predetermined order or sequence.
Inspection routines that run on a LaserGaugeŽ controller are developed on a PC using proprietary software programs. The controller model determines which one of two programs is used to develop a routine. Routine development involves listing the measurements needed, arranging the measurements in a logical order, designating the Virtual Gauges or LGBasic Algorithms to be used to make the measurement and entering any text or graphic instructions for the operators running the routine.
